7:48 am - and now it's 8
I conned, err, I mean convinced Mr. Doughnut_girl to give me a bigger handicap. Used the ol' "it's that time of the month" excuse. :-)

This is going to be so fun! When I got home last night we has just finished his "test" ride on the mountain bike. He borrowed some of my bike shorts. They were baggy on him. That was reason enough for me to win the race.

:-)

1:49 pm - Friendly competition
Nothing like a little family competition.

I bet Mr. Doughnut_girl I'd beat him at the Howdy Du this weekend. http://www.texasduseries.com/howdydu/

Here's why:
1) He hasn't ridden a bike in 20 plus years.

OK, probably not reason enough, but the smack talk is fun. I know my transition time and bike time will be faster, but probably not fast enough to make up his 6 minute miles.

I did get him to give me a 5 minute handicap for the overall time though.

And he is riding a mountain bike. :-)

8:52 am - weekend stuff
Wow! to crabby and leah!!!!

Still in awe and so proud.

I was in Duluth, MN with Mr. Doughnut_girl to be part of the Grandma's Marathon. It is so gorgeous there. I ran along Lake Superior two days in 58 degree weather. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Rode in the lead vehicle with Mr. Doughnut_girl while he did the radio announcing for the race. It was fun, fun, fun.

I'm happy to be home with all of our pets.

7:44 am - all of the place
i'm all of the place emotionally.

last night i pretended i was an athlete. i rode my bike from my house to Brushy Creek Park, participated in the summer stampede 5k and then rode home.

12 minute ride; 36ish run; 30 minute ride. clearly the wind was in my face coming home.

i was very happy and add to that i did it all by myself. :-) Mr. doughnut_girl is in Iowa. He comes home tonight. Iowa is not the place to be right now.

after i got home and talked on the phone, i went upstairs and turned on CNN. The Scout tragedy has me completely shaken. My sons are scouts. Not in Iowa, but I can't imagine the boys fear and sadness and the parents. i called Mr. doughnut_girl when i got upstairs after watching it. I couldn't barely speak through the tears and he thought our boys were hurt somehow. way to go Jill.

3:01 pm - Friend looking for a job
I've got a friend who, due to a divorce, will be going back to work. She has a legal background and office admin.

Please let me know of any leads. In the meantime, she can/will work contract work. If you have a home office or something that needs to be organized or set up, let me know! Thanks!

8:35 am - fun, fun, fun...again
Mr. Doughnut_girl and I camped at Buescher State Park. We played golf, swam at Bastrop State Park pool, fished and ate. So relaxing and hot.

There is a lake at Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park. Neither of which they allow dogs in or you to swim in. We won't go back there. Inks Lake State Park is the best for both of those.

Who has a lake in Texas and says no swimming? :-(

Bike Time Trial tonight. Game on.

Oh and a follow up to Mr. Doughnut_girl's swim....we went the next day to Quarry Lake and he swam 750 meters while I kayaked. I have to train to swim that far. He didn't. Doesn't seem fair.

10:08 am - swim, swim, swim
i swam yesterday at Pure Austin in Quarry Lake. Mr. Doughnut_girl and I got there well before the Splash and Dash, which I didn't even know was last night.

Mr. Doughnut_girl was in a kayak while I swam. I went 700ish meters. It was "fairly" easy. The whole open water anxiety was removed knowing Mr. Doughnut_girl was right there with a noodle if needed.

Then Mr. Doughnut_girl even swam a bit. After 20 years of no swimming, he wasn't too bad. Back tonight we go. He's toying with doing the Couple's Tri with me. Can't imagine him on a bike, but we will take baby steps.

:-)

7:44 am - wow
I ran the Summer Stampede last night. Nothing like be humbled by running a 5k. Shows that if you basically take a year off, gain some weight, you are right back to square one.

I signed up for the Skeese Women's Tri on Sunday. It's been at least two years since I've done a Tri. It's hopefully short enough that I can do it.

Last night Mr. Doughnut_girl and our furry critters spent about 30 minutes hunkered down in the our bathroom. Very scary. We live right in the line of the first storm. It was interesting what we both took in with us "just in case"

8:29 am - ahhh....travels
Mr. Doughnut_girl had a speaking engagement today in south dakota. he left our house yesterday at 1:30 for a 3:30 flight to denver, changing planes to south dakota. his flight from denver was cancelled due to blizzard in south dakota. the earliest he could get out today from denver to south dakota would have put him at his event after it was over. he got on standby back home last night and crawled in bed at 1:30.

12 hours of nothing. flying, sitting, standing and waiting.

on a happier note, i had an awesome ride yesterday. it's been awhile since i've been on SW parkway. AND a happier note, i got a nice happy hug from someone i rarely see.

Toughest 10k in Texas is tomorrow. Mr. Doughnut_girl will be there! off to boston next week. to play, watch and cheer.

9:24 am - Happy Valentine's Day!!!
(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
>
(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you would be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
>
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
>
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
>
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
>
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says "Thanks a lot" - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say you're welco me" ... that will bring on a "whatever").
>
(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying @*!? YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking "What's wrong?" For the woman's response refer to # 3.
>
* Send this to the men you know, to warn them about arguments they can avoid if they remember the terminology. * Send this to all the women you know to give them a good laugh, cause they know it's true.
