Lordy, lordy!

I remember shopping at Winn's and Gibson's. The best hamburgers in the WORLD came from Holiday House, and I to this day lament its passing whenever I'm over on Airport. Mad Dog and Beans had the best shakes. Inner Sanctum Records...the Armadillo...chicken fried steak at The Stallion...Club Foot scared me back in my tender youth but I spent some time at the Silver Dollar. Holy smokes, what a trip down memory lane; oh, yeah, baby...the Rebel Drive-In!!! Thanks for putting this up here.

Re: Lordy, lordy!

Since 1962--all my life (except a year and a half in Virginia). I'm pre-Mopac! Pre-multilane 183! I remember my dad taking me down to his office at UT the year they installed the AIR CONDITIONING!! Pre-Pennybacker bridge and 360!!

I remember democratic governors.

What a trip! I remember the passing of a lot of them that I never went to. The ones I have memories of -
- Club Foot - had my History of Rock & Roll final "exam" there one summer. One of the TV news stations covered it. It was the summer I felt I didn't need to study, and this was my only A that summer.
- City Coliseum - Sami shows! Or was that at Palmer Auditorium?
- The Silver Dollar - I actually visited The Lumberyard next door for CW dancing
- Palmer Auditorium - dog shows! Or was that at the City Coliseum?
- Texas Tumbleweed - I used to think it was so far away.
- GM Steakhouse - cheeseburger platter!
- Lock, Stock, & Barrel - where a high schooler could go and listen to music. Anybody remember Allen Damron?
- Beans - how many restaurants has this location gone through since?
- Mad Dogs - cookies & cream milk shakes. I'm salivating.
- Scarborough's - fine shopping experiences at Northcross mall
- Terminex - I hung out with the frat boys that stole the bug
- Rooster Andrews
- KNOW - My first car only had AM radio and this was the station I listened to
- K98 - when I graduated to FM radio
- Capital Plaza Theater - I remember seeing Xanadu there. With a boy. Oooh.
- How about the Americana Theater too?
- Rylanders -> Tom Thumb -> Randalls

My family moved here in '78. We're approaching the 40th anniversary of my arrival! Wait, that can't be. I'm not that old! Ack.

Oh no. I was in no way involved in that felonius activity. But I do know the guilty parties were required to fix the damage they caused, which involved repainting it. They added pledge pins on it - little blue squares. Made me smile every time I drove by when it moved to I-35. Like I was "in the know".

The ZiderZee!!!

Safeway (which I think became Rylanders, etc., etc.,etc.) and added to the list of movie theaters the lovely Northcross 6 and the original Arboretum Cinema.

And it's not really a place but it kind of was...Aquafest. Remember the theme nights? We always like to go on the German night. Lots of high school evenings were spent running around, drinking on Auditorium Shores while some polka band played.

My cousin said I wouldn't recognize Austin

Wow, it sounds like all the stuff that made Austin such a great place to grow up has been replaced by giant boxes. That's a shame. I've lived in California for over 25 years and never managed to make the time to go back to Austin. I guess it's for the best since the Austin I remember only exists in my memories and old photos.

Anyway if you miss Safeway stores, you can visit CA. It seems you can't go more than a mile without running into a Safeway.
